A tip of the hat to John Ford and the clips used from his film Battle for Midway. As a further note, the U.S. Navy had call on 90% of color film made during WW2. Which may be why D-Day is mostly a black and white affair. The Germans took more color footage than the Allies on that day.

Actually, the Midway base wasn't "Shattered." The Japanese had done damage, but nowhere near enough to guarantee a successful invasion. In fact, it is doubtful if the Japanese could have successfully taken Midway even if they had won the battle as they weren't well trained or prepared for amphibious assaults.

Only 6 of the 26 US fighters were Wildcats. The rest were Brewster Buffalos, far inferior to the Wildcat. Properly handled, a Wildcat could defeat a Zero while a Buffalo could not. Of course, the US planes were badly outnumbered as well.
