I actually found the Xelo'thath shield to be more effective then the Mantorok one.

that ancient city reminds me of the city that H.P lovecraft wrote about in his story: the rats in the wall, then again a couple of things in this game were taken from that story

I may be getting this wrong, but it said in the gladius description that it was used for hacking and chopping at the enemy, but could also be used to stab.
So, um, yeah.

I've been thinking, and it's possible her grandfather had it stored somewhere to be mailed upon his death.... or something...
