@johngabb2 The cyclist didn't "force" the taxi driver to do anything, it was his own choice. No, what happened was the cab driver couldn't be arsed to wait for the HGV to make its turn, which would probably have meantt he'd then need to wait through another red phase. Only an idiot would overtake an artic that's about to turn right and sadly that's not an unusual attribute in a few cabbies.
@johngabb2 NO, the OP's road position was fine - he should take the middle of the lane when in a queue of traffic, to discourage exactly this sort of driving.
Should you not be more into the left to let the taxi get in rather than forcing him to stay out on the other side of the road making him decide whether to stay there or overtake the lorry
