Gateshead and Newcastle are two ancient communities separated by the River Tyne in the north east of England.
The 'Angel of the North' is a 20m sculpture by Anthony Gormley. Since 1998 his sculpture has come to represent the re-birth of Gateshead if not the whole of the North East.
I wrote this song as a humorous comment on the friendly rivalry between Gateshead and Newcastle.
This song is in 'The Ed Pickford Songbook'.

  • Fantastic!

    Could become a classic ;-)

    Keep up the good work.

From a Geordie exiled in Germany.

I don't know if can get Radio4 somehow in Germany - BBC iPlayer? but in early May there is a programme going out about Gateshead. It is called 'Mark Steel's in Town' and that night the town is Gateshead.
