People today are great big titty-babies. Sorry, but there would be chaos and rioting in the streets if this generation saw Depression era conditions. Back then, people tended to feel responsible for their own mistakes and accepted that misfortune happened. Nowadays, you have politicians who pander to the current generation's sense of entitlement and self-pity when they suffer a setback.

Recipe for disaster.
