it took you 20 minutes to drive over but Imagine spending 3 weeks climbing over that on foot with no road in 22 feet of snow and blizzards after not having eaten anything except leather and pine needles for days before. Then add to that the emotional trauma of knowing that you left the remains of your children behind you in the snow after carving all the meat off them. Now that we have cars and highways we really don't appreciate at all what the donner party went through to get to california.
