really you had him as a teacher. I wish he was a teacher at my High School all they preached about was about how great Lasseiz faire was , the in 08 the crash came and they said govt should not intervine ....funny thing he wrote it in 07 and warned of the bad.

This massive financial crisis has prompted me to investigate our current economic model and I hope that others are becoming curious too. Between what the "conspiracy theories" say and the mainstream media it's tough to know who to believe. I like how honest and genuine Joel seems. His book has been very enlightening. I wish he had a blog to share with us his opinion on the latest economic and financial news.

Very fortunate to have had Joel as a professor for both EC201/202 at PCC. Keeping my hopes up that I will be able to continue learning from him at PSU. Amazing professor, amazing wealth of knowledge and a strong ability to not only engage students but a willingness to consider any and all questions and opinions.

Why does neither his book nor this interview identify where he teaches? Both say that he is a professor of Economics currently in Portland, OR. Teaching at a community college is nothing to be ashamed of.

Really? Anywhere you could have had him was on a quarter system, not a semester system. Anyhoo.. we might have been in the same class. "8 months ago" would have placed me in History of Economic thought with Joel at PSU. Great class.

Everybody who is concerned about this bailout mess should listen up to Magnuson!

Magnussen is easy to understand. The interview was so interesting, I was sorry when it ended!
He's very laid back and keeps his prejudices out of his comments (which I appreciated). He clearly knows what he's talking about.
I have Mindful Economics and have read the whole thing. Its definitely a great book.
Joel Magnuson is a fantastic economist!
I wish I had him as my professor.

I am fortunate to have Magnuson as one of my professors this semester. He is very easy to understand and has a vast ocean of knowledge from which to draw upon. He lets his opinion be known, but presents opposite views just as clearly, leaving us students the opportunity to challenge ourselves. His new book, Mindful Economics, is a clear asset for understanding the way our economy works. I highly recommend reading it if you have a curious mind and want to dig deep into the truth.
