Hi, im a little confused on how to form the words. how do the letters fit together? And what do the mean once put together? also should i learn to speak japanese b4 i learn to write it? thank you 4 your time. :)

私は英語はわからないのですが、こんにちはという表記に戸惑って
いる様に見えたので 解説します。私が間違っていたらすみません。
「こんにちは」は「今日(こんにち)はご機嫌いかがですか」の短
縮形です。 したがって、助詞の「は」をつかいます。
「こんばんは」も同様に「今晩(こんばん)はご機嫌いかがですか
」の短縮形です。 -

@eishaay so, basically, no (the little spiral symbol) shows possession (my, your, his, etc)?

Sometimes i see that they drop the う from さようなら and it becomes さよなら. Does it Change the meaning or anything?

@FAQIUxD Hiragana is probably the best one to start with. Once you memorize hiragana, you'll notice how similar it is to katakana.
