If you have not seen the TV series Twin Peaks before, you will not understand the power of this scene. I think it is perhaps one of the most emotional scenes of the series because not only do the characters in the show share a feeling of devastation (unaware of why) as does the audience, the music also sets the mood. David Lynch (the creater of the show) is a genius for the worlds he creates!

I totally agree. The song combines a beautiful tune with such strong emotional power. Yet if you have seen the tv series and know who the characters are, you can feel the total devastation and despair - which was the intention of the director. Somehow it's more devastating than disaster movies such as 2012... Why? Because it IS the end of the world for those people - that's why the girl cannot stop her tears ...and yet, the world spins as if nothing happened at all....

So true. "Twin Peaks" was the seed for so very many shows after it--everything from all the CSI shows, to "X-Files", to the current crop that all directly owe their existence to "Twin Peaks" ("Top of the Lake", "The Killing", "Bates Motel", among many others--"Bates Motel" is actually very good; I know Carlton Cuse is a big "Twin Peaks" fan, and if my eye is any good, I believe they've even used a couple of TP locations in BM).

BTW,Sarah Palmer was Laura's mother.Laura Palmer the one murdered.

I totally agree. That is the most devastating moment of the whole series. All efforts against evil have failed. You, the viewer, know who killed Sarah Palmer. The characters know at least, that the killer did it again. I remember when I first saw it, back then, alone in front of the tele. I was just stunned (with tears in my eyes). This was TV like I had never seen it before. All these brilliant American TV series of the 90s and 2000s: This is where it started. This is what made it all possible.

WTF. I never realized that. The world spins, and the river flows, the falls fall. Josie tries to stop the sawmills in respect for Laura, Catherine wants to keep 'em producing non stop. Cooper preaches about the level of caring in a small town and wants respectful burial for Laura where Albert seemingly gives no fuck. The world moves on and everyone has a different attitude to that.

Damn this has to be one of the best endings in any tv show, and i'm not even sure it's the best ending in Twin Peaks.

@johnyasmin13 I lost my dad when i was 16 from a car crash. I came home and he was dead. I cant speak to the sheer number of tragedies you have experienced but i can say do not despair. Death in of itself is not the end for we have died a million deaths and lived a million lives on earth before we truly pass. Remember the love your mother and aunt gave you. Never forget that. Life is painful and hard but we must carry on for the love ones who have passed want and will us to truth and beauty.

This is how I feel now as I lost my mother & my mothers sister which is my aunty & 12 very very close friends all gone in the last 6 months & now I'm just a shadowman & just exist now.i can't believe how life can be so cruel to people at times! Dying is so easy! But living is very hard? I wish someone could fix my broken empty heart.
