Rail curves are limited to a maximum Degree of Curve of 8. The Degree of Curve is the angle subtended by the total length of the Arc. The Steel Rails are composed of Steel that has a Maximum Moment of Inertia that allows the rails to be streesed , i.e. bending, without permanently deforming the steel.

Rail is actually very flexible if its not spiked down. Usually rail trains have speed restrictions when they go through switch points or diamonds.

WOW GP30s

Great job on that GP30. Sure don't see many of them around.

yea my my grandparents and father were saying lots of rail activity might pick up becuase of the price of fuel these days lets hope thats what happens more videos for us to watch and rate!

Nice catch on the GP30.
Don't those rail sections have to bend when the train goes around a curve? How is that done? There are rows and rows of rails stacked on those cars, so you'd think they would be as rigid as steel I-beams in a building. This is weird!

They sure do, my guess is that since each rail is about 1/2 mile long it gives them a certain amount of flexibility. You would think it would just whip the back cars right off the track!

Back in july this same train was north of Baltimore and both units horns were stolen overnight. They then had to get another unit to lead the train
