Release: 15.1.2010 + 29.1.2010 (Remixes)

Here is a sweet video-performance from our friends from the Hump Day Dance Party.
Following 2009's Motor Cortex EP (electro record of the month in Mixmag) and remixes for Malente&Dex (Exploited), Strip Steve (Boys Noize), Staygold (Magnetron) and Schlachthofbronx (Man Recordings), Lorenz Rhode dives deeper into electrofunk territory this time.
For the shamelessly synth-saturated title track he teams up with infamous Berlin based singer Snax (Ex-Captain Comatose & Supportact for Jamie Lidell, Peaches and the Scissor Sisters), who turns "Something Hot" into something even hotter.
"Like a Player" is a dazzling clash of sacral arpeggios, heavy beats and P-Funk licks - this must be what happens if the organ player at your wedding turns out to be George Clinton.
Another drum machine funk joint, "Drop the P!", features a strangely familiar bassline hmm !
And then there's "Telephone Helicopter Applause Gunshot", a peculiar little thingie that could only come from Dusseldorf; we suppose (Kraftwerk's hometown).
Hudson Mohawke (Warp) and Aeroplane (Eskimo) are already fans of Lorenz Rhode!
Watch out for the remix package: Savage Skulls (Dubsided/Mad Decent), Seiji (Bugz in the Attic/Computer Juice), Mattie Safer (Ex-The Rapture), Shazam (Bang Gang)
early support from: Annie Mac (BBC Radio1), Hudson Mohawke (Warp), Jackson&his Computer Band (Warp), Sinden (Counterfeet), Fake Blood (Cheap Thrills), Moulinex (Gomma), Pete Herbert (L.S.B./Eskimo), Strip Steve (Boys Noize), Tim Paris (CracknSpeed), Beni (Kitsune), Bang Gang Deejays

Statements on Lorenz Rhodes first single Motor Cortex:
"Think Electronic P-funk, spruced up by old skool house and wrung through an electro mangle. (DJmag UK)

"P-funk electro sounds that wouldn't be out of place in Chromeo's glovebox. A great EP and a name to watch from Düsseldorf." (Electro Single of the Month/MIXMAG UK)

"One of Berlin's ascendant labels return again with an '80s-drenched monster. The Retro-italo flavours will drown you in memories of baggy trousers and terrible, terrible haircuts. This is an essential purchase for those chasing cosmic disco dreams." (Clash Magazine UK)

"Germany-based Rhodes delivers a hypnotic electro-funk concoction." (XLR8R Top10)

"A jackin' smasher from Düsseldorf lad Rhode on Shir Khan's label, all jittering yet dreamy beams of disco-techno and nods to Krautrock." (Time Out Magazine/UK)

"Bescheiden in der Attitüde, ohne prahlerischen Anspruch auf die nächste Club-Hymne, aber doch zauberhaft einnehmend in Harmonie und Beat präsentiert sich Lorenz Rhode." (SZ/Jetzt)

"Fusing electro funk, old school house and b-boy hand claps, this manages to sound like every great body-popping 80s synth record ever produced - and that's just the title track! The rest is like Yellow Magic Orchestra soundtracking 'The Breakfast Club'. Ace!" (Crack Magazine, UK)

"Rhode is the new Herbie Hancock!" (Kap10Kurt)
