KIDS??? We need to teach them better? HOW many people were on the street and how many drove by? The criminals are the people who allowed that to happen. Who videoed and provided commentary, a child died and that is sad but DAMN whats wrong with the people who did nothing!!!

It's sad but I suppose those ppl were fearful for themselves. Derrion wasn't actually involved but tried to step in and stop the fight and look what happened to him

readily available to children? This is why they have no value for human life. We glorify movies like scarface and american gangster. Let they play games where their shooting people all day long and looking at gorry scenes all day long and there is no consequence. They need to understand that death is real and there is no coming back. There is a detachment that is there because it's an image and not an actual person they can relate to.

I understand what you are saying but at the same time it's not just the media that portrays violence. It's everywhere! It's been around since the beginning of time. Hell, it's how America was founded. History tells us the the more violent/hateful a person is the more likely they will succeed. It has to start with the parents. its up to us to change that way of thinking and show our kids that violence is not the best route.

Simply put, it is the music we listen to, the shows and movies we watch, that have desensitized us and our children. We may think its not harmful but in the long run they have phsycologically demoralized our way of thinking. So now instead of reasoning with one another through words, we opt for reasoning with our fist, lawn chairs, guns, knifes and anything else we can think of that will cause each other pain.

I agree. But remember, it’s not just the youth. We live in a culture of violence: where one is looked down upon if you turn the other cheek (“you’re kilt”), but idolized when brutal (“you’re a killa”). We don’t seek to uplift the lowly (i.e., nerds, down-syndrome, thick glasses, the powerless, the ugly, the un-cool, etc) but instead claw at each other so we can be on top. People are more concerned with competing with the ‘Jones’s’ and less concerned with helping those who need it.

It goes a little deeper sis. Yes it does start with the parents but the other issue is that this society portrays the image of violence everywhere. In video games,TV's, movies-and what happens is our children (not just black children) can't distinguish the real from the fake and they become desensitized. This isn't a color issue, this is happening everywhere. We as parents need to monitor our kids better when it comes to all forms of media. Then we need to attack our gov't. Why are these images

Sorry for the typos...But Fathers need to step up. Get our children involved into activities that will keep them busy in a positive way. Don't talk negative about the other parent around your children. Also just because you're at home with your children because mean you're spending time with them. Also don't drink, smoke or have sex around your children. Turn the damn tel-lies-vision off. Also feed your children healthy foods. Believe it or not food plays a big factor on your brain.
