Congrats on your first Barber Dime! And what a find! The gray tarnish is silver oxide. It'll clean up nicely. I would have it professionally cleaned, graded and slabbed. I sent you a personal message to tell help you out with that. I'm glad you found that Barber. Outstanding find and video!

lucky for us all the key s mark coins got sent to the northwest....This is the #1 area in all of america to find the S coins...My brother has found a few barbers in Vancouver and Portland some of them very rare dates....Theres lots more out there! Good luck on your future hunts

To the other coin collectors on this comment post, do u personally find anything wrong with soaking the coin in pure spring water (with no added minerals) overnight. Just to get the dirt off?

Thanks for your comments, It's funny where you'll find silver. That coin was 3" I have dug clad dimes in the same park at 7" go figure! Good luck on your hunting

Excellent find. You can tell that you are way excited about bringing this one up. There is a park right near me that dates from about the same time as the one you were hunting, so now I have visions of silver dancing in my head :-). Happy hunting.
Hey, have u ever used a bounty hunter? Looking to pick up a decent spare setup for around $200.

silver tarnishes. period. especially after time. not to mention oxygen in the ground. What state are you in? if you feel like grading it, do. If not, don't. Check around with several second opinions via local coin shops.

I just started getting into coin collecting and your videos are getting me stoked on metal detecting, I would love to give it a try. I am wondering what you would recommend?
As for the grading, what I have learned is that older coins especially have huge fluctuations in prices depending on grading. That doesn't mean you have to pay to get it graded, especially if you want to hang on to it for a while and are happy with your own grading:D

@kickndave21 Thanks for the comments. Start out with a entry level detector from one of the name brands, : Minelab, Whites, Garrett, Fisher, Tesoro. Whatever unit you decide on, read the manual / DVD and learn how the unit responds to targets, learn how to properly recover targets, start out in your yard. Your first old coin or relic will hook you into this great hobby. Good luck
and thanks for watching.
