@HaroldRehling If you want to compare Cuba to a nation, try comparing it to Uganda or Bangladesh, or any other third world capitalist country for that matter. Cuba doesn't try to deny that it's a shit hole, we know very well it is. But the reason? It has the most powerful nation at it's front door, which has been trying to destroy Cuba at all costs. Marx and Engels said socialism within the borders of a single, non industrialized country is worse than capitalism. There is a reason for that.
-
@HaroldRehling itary power in the world that got most of it's good living standards from Imperialism. This is an undeniable fact. And the same thing applies to West and East Germany, The United States did not get hurt by the war, unlike the Soviet Union (27million deaths). Therefore it was easy for the U.S. to just invest a shit ton of money in west germany. I never condemned "Corporations" as this is Bourgeois-Liberalism. Corporations are just a strand of a bigger problem-capitalism.
-
@HaroldRehling China did, yes, and India on the other hand, no. India has gotten poorer than ever before, as a matter of fact. And I'm not a lifestylist. Capitalism is the greatest mode of organization ever experienced by human civilization, however, time is running out. China will grow, and grow, and, like it's western counterparts, eat shit. My point was you cannot compare Cuba to the United States, as Cuba is a tiny Island nation constantly under siege and embargo. The U.S. is the largest mil
-
@HTCEVOSONGS Both India and China, as a result of economic liberalization, have 50,000 people PER DAY, rising out of poverty.
Havana? How often do Cuban refugees fashion makeshift rafts in a desperate attempt to flee to the US as compared to the number of Americans trying to flee into Cuba?
Similar question for East and West Germany.
BTW, friend, you ARE an ####. Evidence? You condemn corporations and capitalism while using a corporate capitalist brand (HTC EVO) in your user name.
-
@HaroldRehling You are playing games. I could say, if I was an asshole, compare Kampala with Havana, but I'm not an asshole. Because that's a completely innacurate way of judging the contradictions within social systems. And for the third world, life has been drastically worse, after NeoLiberalism, than before. NeoLiberalism literally has done nothing good. I don't care to argue with Utopians such as yourself, though. Because capitalism is failing and will eat itself soon and you can just bitch

Spray those filthy hippies! My sympathy is with the cops. Beat them with bats!
-
The cops did the right thing. The ones who backed off, I mean.
-
@HTCEVOSONGS I find it incomprehensible how anyone comparing the failure of the Soviet and Maoist systems with the lifting of tens of thousands of people out of poverty daily in countries liberalizing their economies would celebrate communism.
Compare Caracas with Santiago or Pyongyang with Seoul.
-
@HTCEVOSONGS What you Marxists call "Capitalism" is a symptom of Mercantalism. A monopoly can not exist without a state granted privilege. "Class" is irrelevant so long as standards of living are improving across the board. "Utopias" are superstitions. The belief anyone can draft a "blueprint for society" is a fatal conceit and doomed for failure. Risk of loss is the motivation for "ethical behavior".
-
@HaroldRehling contradicting the very nature of them being "Free", like most Utopian ideology. You cannot put forward a blueprint for a future society in which conditions are caused by moral behavior. You must understand that people will only act in a moral manner as a RESULT of conditions, not a cause. And free markets do not provide conditions that will prevent monopoly, other then state intervention, which contradicts the idea of a "free market" and an unregulated society.
-
@HaroldRehling The state, in terms of capitalist society, is always controlled by the ruling class (Bourgeoisie). When people are taxed, it on their behalf, when markets are regulated, the same. Free Markets have never existed. And even if so, you still have the internal systematic contradictions in capital accumulation, commodity production (which gives rise to falling profit) and man other contradictions in class, of international occasions, etc. Free Markets will lead to monopoly, thus
-
@HaroldRehling But this is undoubtly a Utopian claim. In fact I must compare it to most of the Utopian Socialists I have encountered (Benevolence of people in a system). And Markets are not defined as organized trade, nor is capitalism defined as private ownership over the MOP. Capitalism is what we call the Bourgeois dominance over the mode of production, existing markets and capital. All of these things existed in the SU. Just a different way for the Bourgeoisie to organize itself.
-
@TrainingStream The difference between the 60's and today is the hippies recognized Government to be the problem. Far too many of these kids seem to think Government is the solution.
The original, predominantly Libertarian, core of the Tea Party movement, by recognizing Government is at the root of the problem, had more in common with the 60's hippies than do the bulk of these Occupiers.
-
@HTCEVOSONGS Markets have existed for as long as people have traded (which predates civilization by thousands of years)
Capitalism is defined by private ownership of the means of production. Ownership is a state of EXCLUSIVE rights and control over property. Capitalism is, therefore, synonymous with a free and unregulated market.
Markets, like people, are, by their very nature, free. Freedom is limited only when it submits to brute force.
-
OK I am in the dark here....
So just what were the people protesting about?
-
The saddest part is that these idiots are of my generation. Why did so many of us turn out to be complete numb-nuts!? But, nonetheless they're entitled to their stupidity. As long as it's within the bounds of the LAW! I didn't see a dang peaceable thing about all their yelling. They sound like a bunch of morons who's parents never disciplined them! Either learn to obey the law, or be willing to pay the consequences of breaking it! They've got no sympathy here! Not even empathy!
-
@HaroldRehling The Market, as we know it is relatively new (Aprox 400 yrs). And Capitalism is not defined by "free Markets", it's defined by the nature of the mode of production, commodity production, etc. Even, if we are speaking scientifically, the Soviet Union was a FULLY capitalist country 1965 onwards. Free markets are a myth, they can't exist. And real Radical Leftists don't sympathize with the Bourgeois state, unlike that fucker Chomsky, the traitorous liberal.
-
@Elvishairdude89 You do not fully understand why these people are protesting do you? Dont you remember the protest of the 60's how it started with the college kids and the U.S news said they were dirty drug using hippy's? It doesnt matter if the corp's. make money from the videos and tweets the point of the movment is to get people to start thinking about this stuff and asking questions. The 1% owns the media in the US so you had be more careful about where you get your news freind.
-
@Elvishairdude89 Ha ha, golden! They were sitting on a footpath... I'm not sure how much of a block that was to students learning or the university operating. Perhaps they had to walk around them... just terrible! You're right, I have no experience in a fascistic society (neither do you, you douche), but with this action and people like you in the world, I'm sure I won't have to wait long.
-
These guys are doochebags. They took their pepper spraying "like men" you fool, it's public outrage over the event, not the kids having a cry. The public is saying we don't like that kind of treatment in our first world country. The gents on the left and right in this clip belong in Germany back in the 30's.
-
More lies, just like the hydro fracking commercial before the video. The only thing the 1% can hope for is that the people that dont know whats going on, the fraud the lies and the truth behind the movment will get fed up with the movement and get scared crying out for it to just go back to the way it was...you know when the people who dont understand the truth behind the mov. crack from all the pressure and cry STOP just leave me alone...some people's brain can't handle all this information.
In other countries those kids would have been dragged away and never seen again. Or shot on the spot. There certainly wouldn't be any press there to blow the whistle... if there were they would portray the cops as heroes of the glorious regime or some such nonsense. No youtube either. OWS has no idea what oppression is, or Fascism, or brutality.

@Loathomar A "Corporation" as you apparently understand it is a legal fiction created, sustained, and empowered by government. Get Government COMPLETELY out of the market and these corporations you hate so much would fail and disappear to be replaced by firms which do serve the wants and needs of the public.
When government controls what is bought and sold the first thing bought and sold is the government.
