  • Is this an actual solid-injection diesel engine or an oil engine?

  • I think it is a real Diesel. I will check it out at the October show and get back to you. David N

  • It is a 2-stroke Diesel. The head is heated with a torch before starting.

  • that engine is a YV Fairbanks Morse, That makes it a semi-diesel. It has around 100 psi compression and less than a 1000 psi injection pressure. There is no way that engine well start cold without preheating. Fairbanks Morse did not start making a true diesel "cold start" until some time in the early 30's, with the YVA's and 32 series of engines.

  • @Tubeboy732 no, it is a diesel. You can start one with no preheating if you crank it hard enough. The only way to achieve that is via compressed air start.

  • Then that would make it a hot bulb?
