The lead on this lovely Finnish waltz is played by Linda Jo on her octave mandolin with Don playing a minimalist backup on 5-string banjo. We've been told that "Metzakookia" has become popular with Celtic musicians. But nearly everyone feels that this piece has the feel of the Balkans or Eastern Europe where some of Don's family is from; makes the banjo player want to leave the 5th string alone and go for the sound of a balalaika. We play this in A minor instead of the the usual G minor because it fits nicer on the mandolin and gives the banjo a bit more of a 'gypsy' sound. The Finnish spelling is: Metsakukkia Valssi
