Bill Monroe and band plays 'Southern Flavor" (Live) - about half way through the number the mic stand slips and the mic falls - Bill (with Mandolin and Hat in hand) follows it in hot pursuit never missing a beat. Not high drama, but Bluegrass Music does move right along, typically between 100 BPM to 200 BPM and at times even higher.

Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass Boys helped define 'Bluegrass Music" a sub-genre of "Country Music" with its roots mainly in Kentucky. It now has a diverse and loyal following worldwide.

Bluegrass is typically based on a small set of acoustic stringed instruments including mandolin, acoustic guitar, banjo, fiddle, resonator guitar and bass, with or without vocals.

  • Sorry to bust the bubble. The mic didn't fall. This was part of the act. Bill did this almost every time he played Southern Flavor. The band would look around at each other and ask what is he doing? Finaly 1 would say "He's gettin down" so it was part of tha act. Good friend of mine (Rick Campbell) played fiddle for Bill for about a year or so.

  • @glenbanjo Thank you for the visit and "Thank You!" for your input. All the best!

  • since when was Bluegrass a Sub Genre of country music...all of todays music is based off of Bluegrass...a real Bluegrass lover would know this..

  • @Mikeyboy8325 Good Point - IBMA suggests that Bluegrass can be tracd back to the early 1600's and became more popular in the early 1900's with radio. IBMA suggests as follows: Since Bill Monroe was a native of Kentucky, the Bluegrass State, he decided to call his band "Bill Monroe and the Blue Grass Boys," and this band sound birthed a new form of Country Music.

You are correct - Bluegrass is an earlier form of this type of Country Music.

Thanks for the visit. Good Stuff! All the best!

  • I was so busy listening to the bluegrass that I totally missed the mike fall.

    G-d:these guys are good.

  • They move right along.

And Gramps had to get down literally to bring them all home. 8)
