mary travers you were a great singer rest in peace

This performance was shown on the beeb in the early 60's. It stood out then, as it stands out now, one of the most powerful and passionate performances of the last half century, or so

@Sistarovat While I can certainly understand your feelings concerning the lyrics to this song and not knowing your age (not listed on your profile page) one must realize the context of the time it was presented. President Kennedy had been assassinated, the Vietnam war was raging and the country was split and I imagine some families were split as well and to try and tell you the history of that time period would require pages.

this song speaks to us in a different way today; there will be a new order soon... the times ARE going to change very soon.

@Sistarovat yes, is disrespectful. Now kids are brats, rebellious and atheist. But parents in the 50s were very oppressive, abusive and violent toward their children.
-
Magnificent lyrics, and most beautifully sung.

gives me the chills

This a sick song. "There's a battle outside and it's raging. It will soon shake you windows and rattle your walls....Mothers and fathers throughout the land...your sons and your daughters are beyond your command. Your road is rapidly aging." Not only does this stink of anarchy, but it's disrespectful to parents who the song basically tells to let their brats be rebellious.
Hey Chuck thanks for this, it's a beautiful film, a beautiful song, and Mary was a beautiful person.

Does anyone know when and where this was taped? Seems like an outdoor venue somewhere.

Gosh. I feel rather silly.
I have no idea where this was recorded even though I have it and uploaded it.
If anyone knows you are welcome to let us know; I am curious myself.
