===Notes===
Tested on Mac OS X 10.6.5, problems reported on 10.5.x

Some users may be able to skip the 2nd command and head straight to the 3rd if you are experiencing a "no such file or directory" error.

I refer to this firmware as version 4.2.1 as that is the version on the firmware package, but if you go into about on your Apple TV it will display 4.1.1.

  • cant ssh into atv gettign this error:

@ WARNING: REMOTE HOST IDENTIFICATION HAS CHANGED! @

IT IS POSSIBLE THAT SOMEONE IS DOING SOMETHING NASTY!

Someone could be eavesdropping on you right now (man-in-the-middle attack)!

It is also possible that the RSA host key has just been changed.

The fingerprint for the RSA key sent by the remote host is

    8xxx

    Please contact your system administrator.

Add correct host key in /Users/dave.xxx/.ssh/known_hosts to get rid of this message.

  • @davelancel your ip address on the apple tv changed. run this command and try again to clear your ssh keys "rm -r .ssh"

  • @hsand01...PLEASE answer our questions!! We have been waiting for days....we cannot get wifi after following your instructions. Please help!

  • @BrianStephandBright Im not exactly sure why you are having trouble with the wifi. I would assume it has something to do with the exploit. I do know that the NitoTV software has patched some previous issues with networking in their program. So if you can find any way to connect the AppleTV to the internet and install that, I would give it a try.

Other than that you can always restore back to the factory settings with itunes, and wait for a more stable jailbreak to be released.

  • I have the same problem as REDSUN. My terminal says NO SUCH FILE OR DIRECTORY found. I have tried it a few times but it keeps telling me the same. What should I do now?

Thanks for the video it helped me a lot !

  • @mjrobin0806 that just means your in the wrong folder. I think some peoples macs like to start on the desktop when you open terminal. if you type in "ls" without quotes as soon as you open a new terminal and see a list of files on your desktop. then just go ahead and try running the 3rd command.

see all

  • Can you get free movies and tv shows by jailbreaking

  • where did the firmware bundle file on your desktop come from ?

  • Just change your custom .ipsw to .zip....extract and here we are!!

  • Thank you; this is the only procedure that worked for me.

  • i completed all the steps succesfully and connected to my tv.

the apple logo showed up but after that nothing is displayed on the tv.

dont know whats wrong. pls help...

  • I cannot extract the two files from the Custom_Restore.ipsw =/

it says: "unzip: cannot find or open"

can anyone provide us with the files?

  • I can't get the last part...keep getting the following response

dyld: unknown required load command 0×80000022 Trace/BPT Trap

  • @davelancel

this is bad advice. you have told them to delete **all** ssh keys. you don't know if they have ssh keys they need for other things.

    open terminal and type:

    nano ~/.ssh/known_hosts

find the line with appletv, delete that line (press control+k) then save (control+x then y)

  • Is there anyway to activate with 10.5.8? i don't want to pay 30 bucks to upgrade to crappy snow leopard
