The popularity of Dvorak's string quartet No. 12 "American" is well demostrated here on Youtube. It is indeed a lovely work. A few others of his string quartets are well worth exploring too. My personal favorite among all his 14 quartets is No. 13. And if I had to pick only one movement from them all, I would pick the second movement of this quartet. It really strikes something close to heart for me.
1. Allegro moderato (0:07)
2. Adagio ma non troppo (9:26)
3. Molto vivace (20:25)
4. Finale (26:59)
You mention that the adagio is your favorite. What a difficult choice to have made since there is SO MUCH beauty and masterful composition contained within the Dvorak quartets. I know them well and could not make such a choice..one made even more difficult by the magnificent playing of this great CZECH quartet.
