One Winged Angel from Final Fantasy VII performed by students at North Hunterdon High School. This performance was done by a student organized group made up of some of the most talented students in the NHHS music department. One Winged Angel was performed on two occasions, this one (during the Hunterdon County Teen Arts Festival) where it received the honor of being named an "Exemplary Ensemble" which prior to the State Teen Arts shutdown would entitle us to attend and perform at a state level Teen Arts festival, and at the 2009 music department Music Awards Banquet.

The band arrangement was compiled by Arnold Morrison and the choral arrangement was compiled by a former NHHS student currently attending Westminster Music Conservatory in Princeton, NJ Micheal Greulich. Over the span of many months Mike Greulich, 1st clarinet ensemble member Dan Lee, and I compiled Mr. Morrison's work into a new, transposed, master score for distribution. The ensemble rehearsed together over the span of three months once every Tuesday in preparation for performance. The entire process from the first contact with Mr. Morrison to performance took a little over a year, but as you can see the work was well worth it!

I'm going to re-contact Mr. Moriosn and see about getting our revised music up on his website located at http://www.finalfantasymusicscores.com. If everything goes up a couple of words to the wise. The One Winged Angel score is VERY VERY DIFFICULT for both band and choir. If you are to successfully perform One Winged Angel you MUST have an extraordinarily talented woodwind section. In addition, band members will require a great deal of endurance as every part plays pretty much every measure of the piece non-stop. I was very blessed to have not only fantastic performers, but a very supportive and talented set of department staff as well, including advice from one individual who served as a writer for the AP Music Theory exam. I guess the basic point I'm trying to make is don't go over your head, but I encourage anyone with enough passion to get out there and give it a try; you won't regret it.

Also, a big thanks to the Johnson family for this performance video! You can sort of tell whose parents were filming, so I did my best to add scenes from the game over-top a good bit of the footage to make some interesting scenery.

  • Well, you're entitled to your opinion. I would think, however, someone as musically gifted as yourself would have far better things to do than spew negative rhetoric towards a performance that was, for these students, a very large accomplishment.

  • Negative rhetoric? People don't improve if they don't know what to improve. I don't dole out compliments just because they make people feel better. If people are not ready to hear criticism, then they're not ready to get better.

  • There are moments when stern criticism is appreciated and others when it is not. This is one of those "not" circumstances. The whole point of placing the video on Youtube was for the participants to see what they accomplished. I respect your comment which is why I did not delete it, but you need to understand that although your message may have come with good intentions, your tone was not conducive to a productive conversation given the outlined circumstances.

  • if it's possible, I think I heard the 2 basses hitting the low E ;D

  • You fool! It was a low F below bottom line G! ;)

  • Some of you guys are forgetting these are high school students. Give them a break. Sure, maybe this piece is a little too "advanced". But they still did an ok job.

  • My band will hopefuly be playing this for our spring pops concert. IT IS INSANELY DIFFICULT. I'm on flute, and I hate how there's absolutely no places to breathe x-x I am also first chair, and half of my section doesn't even play the easiest music we have. This is mission impossible xD

  • @Epica124 ikr?! i actually played the game and that's how i know the song

  • @NariokoNami Can you send it to YT?

  • It's funny as to how many people know this song. I have to wonder though of how many people know the game it's self and of how big it was when it first came out.

  • @thefifthteen Just like my school. They're listening only some shit like Justin Beiber.Honestly (wow I use this word very rare) I think I'm the only person who don't listen any shit pop music (only epic song like this or Enimen,GaGa,and some polish rapers)

  • This song is about as hard to perform as Sephiroth was to defeat in the actual game. .......they probly did that on purpose.

  • you guys were good but the tempo was too fast and the chorus should be singing alittle louder but other then that its not that bad :] good job
