We encounter jealousy and beauty, and beauty comes with a price: most of the girls in the school are anorectic. From the age of eight or nine until they are grown-ups they see their parents twice a year. For most children who attend the school, ballet represents their only chance in life for a future. Every year 500 children will come to audition. 30 students will be accepted. They have beautiful dreams and work unbelievably hard to achieve their goal. After nine years of training 30 students will graduate. One or two will get a job.

  • This is not the Ballet I know. The Ballet I know means making art with your dance, lots of positive and beautiful feelings, and enjoying while doing it. And this teacher... she's horrible, it made me cry. Poor girls :(

  • How can one be an artistic dancer if their body has no fuel to propel them? A dancer needs too much strength to be burdened by such horrible women who are obviously living their dream through others. My heart goes out to these girls. They will never be the dancers they could be, because their bodies are too weak to create art. The blonde girl seemed to use every ounce of energy just to stand en pointe. Poor poor girls.

  • Perm was always the strictest school...this is horrible. how can their legs even hold them?

  • i hate the teachers glasses and attitude toward her pupils

  • the vast majority of people think that ballet is a world of "rich princesses who love combining shades of pink." these people should see this video to see how it hurts to be trying hard, using the latest energy that I have in my 81 pounds to make the most giving, and never come out perfect, the teacher always sees something wrong in what you do. . sometimes left the classroom crying, not only for pain, but for the pression. After all, I would give up ballet for nothing.

  • @carmetalovespcsm this is classical training, unfortunately

  • @carmetalovespcsm I agree. But the Russian ballerinas are no joke. Every time I watch this, I wonder what would happen and how free they would feel if we brought them all to America.

  • I've found that when ballet teachers really think you're hopeless, they just stop correcting you. They just ignore you. When they think you have talent and might actually be good, they correct you, which may sound mean sometimes, but it's critisizm that makes you better... though this might be slightly extreme...

  • @carmetalovespcsm

Sorry to be breaking it up to you, but most probably the ballet you know is recreational and not professional. Because in professional ballet schools this is how it is and it is just the beginning. You should get tough enough because it's a harsh world out there. And nobody cares if you have suffered, had fun, cried or enjoyed the whole process. All they wanna know is how you dance.

  • @carmetalovespcsm i know, me too! what is it with all these recent films that depict ballet like a horror world? it's making everyone think that the discipline of dance involves a load of psychological torture.
