2005 not only saw U2 tear up the concert scene and support their best-selling album, How To Dismantle an Atomic Bomb, the year also was the year in which U2 made the hall in its first year of eligibility, having released their first recording in 1980. Inducting U2 was none other than The Boss, Bruce Springsteen, who told the NYC Induction Dinner audience that the band was not only good, they were "wily," as he shared story about a conversation with his manager. U2's Bono took the podium to thank the necessaries, but he reiterated that U2 is not done yet. The Pretenders were ushered in earlier in the night by Neil Young, and he praised vocalist/mastermind Chrissie Hynde of keeping the band together and...

  • U2 is one of the greatest bands in rock history with hit singles on every record. iggy and the stooges are an amazing musical group but no one compares to U2. they are prolific and will be remembered for many years to come

  • Long Live The Pretenders!!!

  • Bonos great when he does the music and the emotional stuff but he makes me cringe when he does stuff liek that speech.

    I love the Pretenders.

  • U2 does not belong in the RRHOF ahead of Yes or Rush. Sorry.

  • u2 were an absolutely amazing band in the 1980's, they really were but ever since then thy have just been getting more generic and producing simply crap music. I hate saying that cos i was not too long ago a huge fan but they really arent producing good songs anymore.. sad really cos they have so much potential!

  • @Tye1st U2 is my all-time favorite band ever. (I'm not a teenager or in my 20s so I've been exposed to tons of bands & musical artists. Its saying alot 2 say they're my #1 favorite of all time since th early 1980s.) No one has ever knockd them out of that spot- even temporarily. Here's the thing about rock: maybe the R&R HallOfFame cares less about precise genres & more about unique, serious musicianship that creates 'forever' classics on the popular music front & at least touches on rock.

  • @lewecca You are correct. Doesn't surprise me one bit that U2 was inducted in the very 1st year they were eligible to be inducted. If there wasn't a year that they had to wait until, then they would have been inducted years ago already - & WELL DESERVED at that! :)

  • Ok you know what you're right,I agree they're so unique and diverse, but still those other guys and bandsare great rock too.

  • you can't say that this bands are great ((like METALLICA and the others))

but you could say good bands

but they can't be like u2 ever
