More than 6,000 people died in Mexico's drug-related violence last year. One of the highest death tolls was in the city of Culiacan, the birthplace of Mexico's most powerful drug cartels. It's also home to the "narcocorrido," a style of music celebrating smugglers and bandits. But in the midst of an escalating drug war, even the music you play can be a fatal choice.

This report is part of Pulitzer Center-sponsored project "Mexico: Trouble in Culiacán" (http://bit.ly/yEiiR0).

  • Racist assholes. There's videos of Italian Mafia music and everyone gives positive comments but you see a lot of racist, biased shit on this video. Give respect where its due. The Mexican cartels have gained so much power and they will shoot you and cut you up to bits and pieces. Dont doubt them for a second. AND IF YOU DONT LIKE ANY OF THIS STOP BUYING DRUGS!!!

  • Yea the narco-corrido I guess you can say is like what rap is to the U.S. but not like todays rap which talks about dance moves and stupid shit. This music tells more true stories. It is way more deeper than rap though since in many cases even the corrido singer has been heavily involved with drug cartels or a big crime, such as the king of the Corrido Chalino Sanchez ,who killed a crime boss for raping his sister before he left Culiacan.

  • thank you

  • bump some Larry hernanez driving threw the streets on sinoaloa

  • They should do an operation fast and furious corrido titled " betrayed by the government "

  • Its just music. Just because you hear it doesn't mean you are involved or praise what evil deeds they do. There are many songs today in clubs that are quite popular that talk about sex with strangers or whatever, but that doesn't mean you will get involved with any stranger.

  • Stop selling us guns and stop buyng our drugs

  • Old School Narco-corridos were the shit. The new narco-corridos are garbage, the say all kind of stupid shit.

  • @GUEROMEXICANO831 Doesn't make any sense.. Non-violent drug possession shouldn't be a crime..

Who cares if there are assholes out there, racist or not who like Italian "gangster" music whatever that is.. I think that's just Italian music in general for real, I don't think there were many songs with "I'm gonna shank you, toniiight"..

The mafia were assholes to some innocent people, they are scum for that.

The Mexican cartels I don't know much about, but if you harm an innocent you are scum.

  • @bigsmoke53 Puro Arellano Felix|!!
