Our frank and open
Deep conversations
They get me nowhere
They bring me down, so
Give it a rest, won't you?
Give me a cigarette
God, give me patience
Just no more conversation
Oh, give us a drink
And make it quick
Or else I'm gonna be sick
Sick all over
Your frankly vulgar
Red pullover
Now see how the colours blend

Our frank and open
Deep conversations
They get me nowhere
They just bring me down, so
Give it a rest, won't you?
Now will you just give over?
The world may be ending
But look, I'm only human

So, give us a drink
And make it quick
Or else I'm gonna be sick
All over
Your frankly vulgar
Red pullover
Now see how the two colours blend, my friend

Won't somebody help?

Won't somebody stop me
From thinking
From thinking all the time
About everything
Oh, somebody
From thinking all the time
So deeply, so bleakly
So bleakly all the time
About everything?
Who I am, how I ever got here
Somebody stop me
From thinking
From thinking all the time
So bleakly, so bleakly
So bleakly all the time

  • this is the song that got me interested on Morrissey...surprise anyone?

  • A very clever song lyrically. It plays with the listener throughout, before Morrissey reveals that the song is really a conversation with himself.

I'm particularly fond of the title, which is also the first two words in the song. "Our Frank", using a splendidly Northern possesive pronoun and of course word play on the adjective/name 'Frank': All to divert attention away from the true subject of the song... Morrissey himself. Brilliant!

  • MORRISSEY NUMBER ONE

  • @jocer12ify Never!

  • 2 my opinion Morrissey as a solo artist is better than the Smiths!

  • @missineichen I've never seen the film. tbh I saw it advertised but thought it didn't look like my sort of thing. But when I listen to loads of (some quite obscure) songs and bands on youtube there are references to 500 days of summer in the comments. It must have a great soundtrack! I might check it out.

  • 500 days of summer led me to the smiths which led me to morrissey. amazing singer

  • Happy 20th anniversary when this song & album,"Kill Uncle",was released in 1991(takes me back to my Senior year in HS).

  • @MisterOldSchool1 me too:)

  • @MisterOldSchool1 Mine too! I always knew about the Smiths as a part of 80's rock but this is the one that made me interested in Morrissey as an artist.
