  • Årh julen er hyggelig!

  • "Det kimer nu til julefest" - fed sang!

  • this is how my Danish grandmother described her Christmas Tree in Denmark, with candles

  • ... lovely video, my family does this as well, every Christmas... thanks for posting! :)

  • @gix500 No, I would love to learn to sing it in Danish! :)

  • @lichtbroeder its on jule-sange dot dk........click on julesangtekster, but ofcourse its in danish, so if u really want it in english, hire a translater lol

  • I wanted to add that we have real candles on our tree also. The effect is so much different than with electric lights. As I look at the faces of the older people in this video, I can imagine them as children, walking around similar trees and singing the same carol. Christmas, for me, is much more of a marker of the turning of the years than New Years Day ever was. - Hans

  • @gix500 Thank you very much! Yes, Crosby recorded the song (with English words) in the 1940's. I do not know if he learned of it through European contacts, or from Danish Americans. I will search for the Danish lyrics, and in the languages of my parents I wish you: Prettige Kerstdagen and Frohliche Weihnacten!

  • @lichtbroeder i know the answer is late but now its actually christmas again. this song is called "det kimer nu til julefest" which means "the bells are chiming for christmas party/celebration, written by N.F.S.grundtvig in 1817,one of the most influential people in Danish history, and its a salm(about jesus and god)...did bing crosby pick this up in the 40's? probably, but here its very wellknown because they sing it every christmas

  • Can anyone tell me the Danish name of this song? Is it a Danish carol only? Singer Bing Crosby recorded it in the 1940's in English. This is the first time I've heard it sung by anyone else. The first English verse is this:

O fir tree dark, o fir tree dear,

I wander through the silent night,

I smell thy presence in the air,

And see thy mantle clothed in white!
