We had the best Halloween on our world tour with Conde Nast Traveler's Wendy Perrin and her family when we visited NYC to meet the thousands of disadvantage school kid's who travel with us virtually!

We arranged it via Twitter at @soultravelers3 while in Europe! http://twitter.com/soultravelers3 Still loving Europe, but US does best Halloween by far!

Our 8 year old dressed in a Hermione Granger costume that we bought at Hogwarts in England (see that youtube vid!) and Wendy's boys made their own costumes!

They live in an idyllic neighborhood for a perfect Halloween!

Conde Nast Perrin's Post wrote it about it here:

I wrote about it here:

Yet another fantastic highlight on our open ended world tour as a family ( since 2006- 32 countries, 4 continents, over 165,000 miles -most overland-so far!). Come join us at:

  • Mozart looks so cute in that Hermione outfit!! Glad you guys had fun. :)

  • Thanks Hieifireshadow! Since we miss this holiday on the road, it was a real treat!!

  • Oh my! Finally a new video from you!! Looks like you all had a blast! The decorations in that neighbourhood are out of control lol!! Was that last year or did the families in that area decide to start their celebrations early? Do you come back to the States often or was that the very first time in 3 years?

  • Thx movebyleap! We will be getting up more soon! Yes, this was last year & this was our 1st & only trip back to States so far. There is no real Halloween on the road, so this was a very special treat. See more info & I am writing a post on our blog with more details!

  • Ah, sorry to hear of your accident! Scary thought!

I am trying not to let my fears get the best of me. I know I would regret it if I didn't do this. I've been doing research on volunteer organizations for some time now so I am just trying to wrap my head around the thought of actually signing up!

You and your family are an inspiration! Everytime I watch one of your videos it erases some of my fears and encourages me to get out there!

  • I bet! :)

  • Bottom line, if you use your head, traveling can be as safe as staying home & very enriching! Millions of people bike the Danube with no problem, but I recently wound up in Austrian hospital w/broken arm/surgery/temp paralyzed rt arm! Just freak bad luck, but i got much better/cheaper care than if it happened at home in US!

So even bad things can turn out good, but in 4 years of constant travel almost all of it has been good! Don't worry, be happy! ;)

  • We're in Barcelona now, soon headed to Andalusia for the winter. "Bad things" can happen at home or abroad, so I would not let fear stop you. Do your homework, make good, well thought out choices, maybe talk 2 someone who is doing/has done what you want to do, have plans on what you would do in case of an emergency, have insurance & evacuation insurance if it is in a really remote area with bad hospitals, look at calculated risks. Sure some die in plane crashes or hit by lightening, but bad odds

  • Where are you guys now? Are your travels nearly over?

Just finished watching the news and became hesitant about my potential to do some international volunteering work in January. Thought, there is so much going on in the world that is bad, what if I get hurt, am I being reckless? Maybe I am not being realistic...

Then, just went on your site again-renewed the travel bug in me! lol.

What do you say to those who are hesitant about traveling because of "bad things" that could happen to them?

  • Remember too that she did not get a real Halloween in 3 years while traveling outside US, so it was especially thrilling for our 8 year old! Lucky we were at the right place at right time for our little visit!
