It's a good idea to drain the water line to get any dirt out before hooking it up to the fridge.

would the repair guy have to go into the basement or could he hook up the waterline to the upstairs sink in the kitchen right across from the fridge? or would he have to drill holes in the ground to the basement?

@nickycoley1 @nickycoley1 Generally the valve can be installed under your kitchen sink, but if there is a cold water line in the basement close to the fridge it could be easier to put it in the basement. No matter where the valve goes you still need to be able to run the small waterline from the valve location to the back of the fridge either under the floor or through some cabinets.Good luck If you have more questions on this or anything else try our forum section on our website.

i hook up everything the way it was shown, except i used a T connection, once i connected the line to the T connection and turn the water on, it leaks instantly and after about 4-5 seconds the pressure is to high and it pops the line right out of the nut and sprays water everywhere. Why i my plastic line not snug? even when i hook it up again before turning the water on a slight tug pulls it right out. Please dear god help, im tired of getting wet.

@oolethaloo All I can think of is that you do not have either the little brass sleeve in the end of the line or the brass piece that fits over the tubing and is compressed by the nut when tightened. If you watch again there's a close-up showing the 3 pieces on the line, make sure you have them all. If you have them, you'll probably need a new brass piece that goes over the line, because they get bent out of shape and my not seal again after you have removed it. A plumbing shop should have one.

What would be an alternative if you have a steel threaded waterline? Trying to install an RO/DI system. Suggestion would be great

@Greatdaness I'm asuming by "steel threaded waterline" what you have is iron water pipe in your home, if that is the case you will need to find a threaded joint somewhere that you can take apart and add in a "T" connection. From one end of the "T" you can then use other pipe fittings to make your new fridge waterline hook up to it. This is not generally as easy of a job in your case so you may need to consult a plumber.
