  • Thank you for this. If anyone is interested, on our page is a link to our facebook, on there we have a blog called "Exodus 21 debunking polgamist theology" that goes into biblical study on how polgamy is adultery and how the patriarchs repented of polygamy and no more practiced it.

  • @shrunkensunshine So do you deny that Joseph Smith and Brigham Young both had multiple wives? Open your eyes. The LDS "church" only denounced polygamy because they knew Utah could never achieve statehood if they maintained polygamy as part of the doctrine.

  • @WingedPaladinLight There are different translations because, over time, scholarship concerning the Bible - its people, languages, geography, etc. - expanded and people better understood how to convey the meaning of the original texts. There are different ways to say the same thing, whether in the Bible or in everyday conversation; sometimes one way helps one person to comprehend a concept, and another variant helps someone else. This does not change the fact that the message is the same.

  • @WingedPaladinLight Pretty much all Christians agree on the main doctrinal points of what defines the Christian faith. Some emphasize certain aspects or disagree on the implementation of others (especially common with baptism and communion), but all recognize Jesus as the son of God to whom they entrust their salvation by His grace through their faith in him. They recognize Jesus as part of the substance of God, together with the Holy Spirit, that created all things, the alpha and omega.

  • @Enca73 "misinterpretations of Biblical text, is that the fault of the text or the reader?" Yes. Text is limited in its ability to convey meaning. The mind of the reader is limited in its understanding of the works of God and the universe. Reading is subjective. The text will mean one thing to one person and another to another. This is why there are n number of Christian denominations that do not agree on doctrinal points. This is why there are n number of Bible translations.

  • @Enca73 Actually, much of it wasn't available to the early Christians. Not authentic? Or too revealing of the individual's relationship to God and detracting from those who wanted to be in power and act as a door keeper to God for the general public? Too revealing of the fact that Jesus had children in which the sacred line and power continued. Too authentic. Yes, the teachings did not line up to the beliefs of 4th century Christians who did not sit at Jesus' feet and learn from Him directly.

  • @WingedPaladinLight Re: misinterpretations of Biblical text, is that the fault of the text or the reader? As I stated previously, the argument for mistranslation is shaky at best given the conformity between today's scriptures and their ancient counterparts re-discovered during the last 100 years. This argument for mistranslation seems to crop up more frequently among Mormonism than Biblical Christianity, since LDS are taught not to trust the Bible and Christians do the opposite.

  • @WingedPaladinLight Books such as the gnostic gospels of Thomas, Mary, Peter, Judas, etc. and other documents were not included in Christian canon because the early church leaders and members did not recognize them as authentic. This could be for a variety of reasons including date of composition and the nature of the teachings contained therein which did not line up with what was known about Jesus and his teachings.

  • @Enca73 Not faith, evidence. There is much scripture that was omitted intentionally and unintentionally. (The Book of Enoch, The Book of Jasher, The Book of Thomas, The Book of Judas, and what of the Book of Jesus?) There are mistranslations and misinterpretations which has spurned Christian doctrines which are simply false, such as the notion that the Earth was created in 6 Earth days causing an unnecessary war between science and religion causing many people to lose their faith in God.
