Yes, though not as curly as it would eventually get. And she's taken very seriously here too, unlike her later episodes where she sometimes is seen being just as foolish as the kids. And I'm glad to have Burt's first episode posted. Just wish the closing credits were better...

It's one of mine as well, particularly with the interaction with Valerie & Annie, and later on with Valerie & David. Their conversation is very similar to the ones I'd have with my own mother since I was one of the older siblings myself but still a middle child. It's one of those things that imitated life for me with this show, and it's one of those things I feel was lost when Valerie was killed off.

Actually Valerie Harper is from Jersey City in real life or at least lived there in her youth.

My dad is two years younger than her and they went to I believe William L. Dickinson High School in Jersey City together.

I meant in the show..she's from Jersey City. She says in the episode where someone tries to steal her identity in the airport on the way to meet her husband, but then she gets snowed in @ the airport. Yes, she was born in Suffern. NY in real life =-) Sorry for the confusion.

Is it just me or does it seem like with Val's accent she doesn't need self-defense classes? She's from Jersey City (25 mins. north of me) --if you grew up there you're pretty much set for life.
