Intel and Microsoft have created a special video hosted by Cakewalk's Brandon Ryan that explains the benefits of 64-bit computing for musicians. A highlight of the video is SONAR 5 running an enormous project by film composer Shawn Clement, that utilizes 17 virtual instruments, 42 effects, 150 tracks, and full screen digital video—all running simultaneously on an Intel multicore workstation.

  • It's 3.5 gb of ram allowed on 32 bit, to be exact.

  • I'll solve that for you: although 32bit computing it's limited to 4GB of RAM, Windows it's able to allocate only 2GB of memory/process. This can be extended to 3GB for some software by using the /3GB switch in boot.ini

  • hmmm looks nice but i think i'll stick with Macs and Pro Tools

  • Sure have. I guess that solves the mystery of the extra cpu graphs. Doesn't affect the ram limit or marketing BS, though.

  • Never heard of hyper threading have you?

  • His lips say "Dual Core", but his task manager screams "Quad Core". Not only that, 32-bit OSes are limited to 4 gb of RAM, not 2.

Nothing to see here but marketing BS. Move along.

  • Very nice,

but quad core would be better I guess :-)

and now that AMD is coming with native quad core ;-)

  • excellent video

  • yes...i need this
