My name is Jackie. I am just a spokes person for the African penguins at SimonsTown.

Today I'll introduce the African Penguin. Clever people call them Spheniscus demersus. They are also known as the Blackfooted Penguin. And before, they were called the Jackass Penguin. Because African pequins sound like a donkey's bray. Let's be politically correct, they are no donkey. They are African Penguins.

My African Penguin family is spread across the south-western coast of Africa. Today they live in colonies on 24 islands between Namibia and Algoa Bay, close to Port Elizabeth, South Africa, with the largest colony on Dyer Island.

My African Peguin family did not like the African main land due to intruders, and other predators, predators who stole their eggs and who killed them. But wait! in the 1980's these proud birds returned to the African mainland, close to Cape Town, at Boulders Beach, Simon's Town, and Stony Point in Betty's Bay. Can you believe it, these penguins decided to return and humans had nothing to do with it.

Ok. I agree, That's not entirely fair, I think it is because of good people like you that they were able to prosper again on the African main land. But it's not all that easy.

Today you'll find me at Boulders Beach in Simon's Town. My African penquin colony is very popular with tourist. They take photos of my friends, they even swim with these African penguins because they allow tourists very close to them.

Get going, come and see me today.

Love Jackie
P.S. People who bought property in SimonsTown make it all worth it
