Computer generated rain

It's realtime because it's pre-rendered.
It looks better because of the amount of work.
Or did you really thought that crysis would do fluid physics for every rain drop.
And third: Crysis has nothing to do with this.
My opinion of the video: Awesome!

@DominicMetal1979 But it can, so it does.

Just... wow

It makes me wonder...

Rendering time?

It's 2011 and you idiots still don't get it: JUST BECAUSE IT'S COMPUTER-SIMULATED, DOESN'T MEAN IT SHOULD RUN IN SLOW MOTION. F*CKING MORON.

This is great. In fact the one that I found on your page its better, cause has a better background.

@lhtony Definitely sooner than that. XD watch?v=wl_p-K-0m8Q
Though heavy optimisations are needed... But there was this one game what used this system already... Can't remember the name however. Some Russian game. Quite good actually but not so memorable it seems. Some 1,5 years ago...

@Nigo40 Hopefully in 10 years, affordable hardware would be powerful enough to support a game like that! But once again mechanics of a game > physics. I still play some games with terrible graphics but amazing story/concept
wow! (faved) i wonder, unfortunatley theres no "rain" option in the fluid simulator (yet...), how did you simulate rain w/ the fluid simulator? -please reply-

just a big cube of water falling through a hollowed out grid.

hmm, sh3l1, I don't believe I can. Trust me, I tried. (or maybe I am just stupid? I have little experience with this so called interweb)
my lame attempt at circumventing youtube:
mpan3·homeip·net/?blenderfiles
Replace the middle-dot with a real period. The source file for the rain video is public.

lol, total calculation time took around 72 hours (including baking and rendering) i doubt we are going to see this level of detail in games anytime soon.
i just relealized how bad this video looks on youtube, please, for the love of god, look at the HD version found on my webiste (link posted in the description section)

How did you seperate the water like that? Just use lots of little "fluid" objects?
