Less Than Jake interview JR the saxophone player from the band Less Than Jake sat down this past weekend in Philadelphia and spoke to me about their new album GNV FLA. Their new album is named after the airport abbreviation codes for Gainesville, Florida. JR talks about the business side of the band and their new record label.

Less Than Jake jumped to and from major labels over the last decade and finally decided to start their own record label and hold onto control of all music, merchandise, and live shows. The interview runs just under thirty minutes, but the points he talks about are very important for anyone who is in an independent band.

Less Than Jake have been together doing their music for over fifteen years, and expect to see them for at least another fifteen to come!

The video includes live performances of Does The Lion City Still Roar, Johnny Quest Thinks We're Sellouts, and All My Best Friend Are Metalheads.

  • i hope they stay together for another 15 or more years.

  • Wow. Awesome, awesome interview. I agree with JR on everything except when he said LTJ isn't very though provoking. LTJ's lyrical content has always been top notch IMO.

  • @prowblade No, it's an excerpt from a spoken word album entitled "An Open Letter To My Teenage Son" by Victor Lundberg.

  • Perfectly said JR i have wondered myself why the FUC# this band was doing what they are doing

  • I saw this guy in the box office of peoples court today! I didn't know his name then though D:

  • its cool to see a side from a band member besides promoting and playing. its awesome to hear their back-story and the in's and out's of the band. Less Than Jake is awesome and I hope they stay on the circuit for a very long time!!!

  • Lol he keeps ripping on the band. My second time through the interview and now I noticed it. "I play in...uhhhh what is it? Oh yeah LTJ." and "They asked me to play fo them, and I was real hesitant...but here I am!" and "Yeah he gave me the CDs and it was hard to hear the horns cuz the recordings are all crappy and shit." lol

  • @mcast2 Yeah and the songs on that record aren't even the way they arranged them. I found that out and I think that's why it sounds so good. Sometimes its not bad having a produce totally add their style to the record. They said they would record tracks and come back from lunch, and their producer (Jim I think) had pieces of the song moved around and cut and chopped and even recorded his own parts and added it. Maybe thats why some of the songs sound kind of remixed with intros and such.
