We did it! On the last day of our last titling show of the year, we got the final DQ we needed for our MACH.
Howie is a very special dog to me. Purchased out of the local newspaper before I knew any better, Howie started off life with a severe case of parvo. At one point the vet sat me down and asked if I would like to continue treatment or let him go. I looked at Howie, saw a sparkle in his eye that told me he wasn't giving up, and told the doctor 'as long as Howie's trying, I'll be here for him'. Four years later and two years into a promising agility career, Howie sustained a back injury, and we were not sure if he would be able to continue the sport we love so much. But again, Howie's determination and zest for life shined. After several months of physical therapy he came back to show me in no uncertain terms that he was here to stay and not ready to hang his hat yet!
Now at 2 weeks shy of 6 years old, Howie's spark is shining as brightly as ever. Earning his MACH at 5 years old, qualified for '09 AKC nationals, and on his way to Invitationals next week as the #3 shih tzu. Here's to the many great years we still have to come. My special little Happy Howie, we have only begun our wonderful journey together.
