It has been 35 years since North Vietnamese forces took over what was then Saigon, ending a long and bloody war with the United States. Today a unified Vietnam is preoccupied with pushing ahead with free market economic reforms while maintaining its communist political system. As VOA Senior News Analyst Gary Thomas reports, that presents some roadblocks to closer ties and more trade with its onetime enemy.

Vietnam and the US can be allies even though they were enemies during the Vietnam War, just like Japan and the US after WW II. This will help the US to contain China and stop its expansionism policy which threatens regional peace and world peace. Don't listen to what China communists say. Their words are Peace in Speech, Violence in Action. A Chinese leader once said, "China's strength on international stage is dependent on its military power." No wonder the buildup of China's military.
