Seems like they were doing a playback of the recording at the same time as them singing which screwed thing sup royally for them. Of course it doesn't help that they probably had only so much prep time for this compared to say if they had concerts lined up where they were doing this every night or 5 or 6 days a week. They probably also had a problem with what they were hearing which caused the beat to be so far off.
And let's face it if you start a song off on the wrong note it's hard to save.

@punkprincesskj I totally agree with you. Theres just more magic to it in the movie.
they don't sound as good as in the movie. Their voices are less in sync, there are no feelings and it just didn't sound like the voices in rio, that enchanted us.
