Inspired by Joorum's great channel of horror soundtracks I started out to simply feature the main title theme from my vinyl copy of "Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Friday The 13, Part I, II, & III".
The music "Theme From Friday The 13th Part 3" was transferred very nicely for me from vinyl to MP3 by The Colonel.
I finally tracked down a copy of this soundtrack last year after looking for it for 25 years. The cover was marred by an autograph from Tom Savini (nothing against Tom but it was the album I was searching for..I paid considerably more because the autograph was there but like I said..it was a 25 year search). The album is in excellent condition and really showed no signs of being played more than once or twice. The original Gramavision ad insert was inside the album as well as the 3D glasses (the album cover-front & back- are in 3D).
Once I decided to feature this music in a video I realized that the actual anniversary of the release date was just a day away so I threw in a few other things.
I added in the German Lobby card set featured on www.fridaythe13thfilms.com, some pics of the front and back covers of the soundtrack album, pics of the original 3D glasses and the opening credits.
Friday The 13th Part III was released on Friday, August 13, 1982..26 years ago today.
Made for an estimated 4 million dollars, F13Part3 went on to gross over 9 million it's opening weekend and by October it's total take was over 36 million.
After August 13, 1982..a goalie's mask was never looked at the same way again!.
The stand-out of the album, and the film, was the surprise theme song that die-hard fans of the Friday The 13th films either loved or hated back in 1982.
When I finally got my copy of the soundtrack I sent a PM to Harry Manfredini via MySpace and shared my story with him on tracking it down.
He replied with a little bit of insight into how the song came to be:
"I was in the middle of doing a musical on broadway when Friday 3 was being done. It was decided that since it was going to be in 3D, and be that much more fun, that a disco version of the Friday music would be interesting to do. Michael was a very successful disco producer. We were put together by a mutual friend. I went and spent some time with him. Played him all the materials from the film. Showed him the harmonies, rhythms, various
percussive sounds.. and of course the Jason sound. He then
took those ideas and created a disco piece. Next time we met
I came over and we mixed it. Michael did a great job with the material. and you are also right in assuming that HOT ICE is just a disco kind of name that is just there to have a name.
It was just us.
Thanks for finding me and writing and of course thanks for the
nice words about my music".- HM
So to commemorate the 26th Anniversary of the release of the film and soundtrack here is my litle tribute to one of my favorite films of all time.
