Marcus Grönholm & Peugeot 206 WRC in action - Mänttä 200 Rally 1999 in Finland

Rare action+onboard+incar footage of Finland´s rising rally star Marcus Grönholm giving the all-new Peugeot 206 WRC its maiden win in the Mänttä 200 Rally in Finland ahead of the WRC Rally Finland 1999. Back in the days various teams and factory team drivers used the Mänttä 200 Rally as a test event for the upcoming 1000 Lakes/Rally Finland later in the summer - and in addition to Marcus the 1999 line-up included Carlos Sainz with his Toyota Celica as well as Armin Schwarz with his Skoda Octavia.

(That camera angle pointing backwards was propably shot in a test session since there´s no start number on the side of the car)

Big thanks to amjayes for this video. I was born and raised in Mänttä and Mänttä Rally was always a big happening there. I was nine years old when the 1999 edition run and I still remember watching Peugeot engineers/mechanics working near the rally HQ and one of them gave me a cookie. :-P It was always also a good prelude to Rally Finland.

Unfortunately the rally ended in 2002 mainly due to economic difficulties. It returned in 2009 but as a small-scale event. Still, many nice memories! :-)
