Animo Justice students and parents protest against shut down of Animo Justice. Alternative Media production video of march and protest at Green Dot corporate offices, World Trade Center, Los Angeles, CA. Exclusive video footage.
I love the young man at the 6:45 mark who calls out Marco Petruzzi's mendaciousness and racism. His argument is so cogent, that it sums up the entire profit motive disguised as a "civil rights movement" that the charter-voucher industry represents. Way to speak truth to power!
Marco Petruzzi: "We have no money. We're a non-profit. We don't have a rich guy that even [sic] gives us extra." Really? His own corporate web site says differently: "Philanthropist gives $10.5 million to charter school group" (greendot.org/news/article/philanthropist_gives_10_5_million_to_charter_school_group) I guess when you're as wealthy and privileged as Petruzzi, you don't think Gates, Broad, and The Waltons count as rich guys.
This is what happens when you give power to charter schools. They take advantage of students and teachers. We need these type of protests in our public schools. With all due respect to white males out there--whenever a white man in a business suit comes to you with lip service about school choice, he is looking out for his own bottom line, not your interests. Don't be naive. Green Dot isn't doing this for free.
Our children and communities are NOT commodities. As long as corporate entities with well heeled executives like Petruzzi, and their private, unelected boards make decisions like this in secret, there will be no justice! If Green Dot takes public money, it should be subject to public oversight and decision making. No more privatization of schools!
