House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) today delivered the following speech on the House floor outlining what repealing the job-destroying health care law means for families, small businesses, and taxpayers, and urging lawmakers to work together on better reforms that will lower costs and protect jobs. A link to the video and the full remarks as prepared are below:

"I thank the gentleman for yielding, and I thank all the Members of this body for a spirited, respectful debate on this critical issue.

"Both sides of the aisle have very different viewpoints on what government's role in health care should be.

"If there is one thing we do agree on, it's that this health care law needs improvement. The president himself said as much yesterday.

"Why does it need improvement? Just look at the facts.

"Yesterday, 200 economists and experts put out a letter calling ObamaCare 'a barrier to job growth.'

"The letter talks about how employers are struggling to keep up with all the mandates and tax hikes in this law, flooding the job market with additional uncertainty.

"The one thing the American people wanted out of health care reform was lower costs, which the authors of this law promised, but did not deliver.

"According to these economists -- this law will increase spending by $1 trillion dollars -- that's 'at a minimum' -- and add nearly $1.5 trillion to the deficit.

"So if we agree this law needs improving, why would we keep it on the books?

"Why would we keep one hand tied behind our backs when we're dealing with near 10 percent unemployment and a $14 trillion debt?

"If we can do better, then let's do better.

"Let me be clear about what repealing this health care law means for families, small businesses, and taxpayers:

"Repeal means preventing more than $770 billion in tax hikes and eliminating all the mandates and penalties so that small businesses can grow and hire new workers.

"Repeal means reducing spending by $540 billion, another step in tackling the massive debt that faces our kids and grandkids.

"Repeal means protecting more than 7 million seniors from losing or being denied the Medicare Advantage coverage they like.

"Repeal means paving the way for better solutions that will lower costs without destroying jobs or bankrupting our government.

"And repeal means keeping a promise.

"This is what we said we would do. We listened to the people -- we made a commitment to them -- a pledge to make their priorities our priorities.

"When you look at the facts... When you listen to the people... This is a promise worth keeping.

"Let's stop payment on this check before it can destroy more jobs and put us in an even deeper hole.

"Then let's work together to put in place reforms that lower costs without destroying jobs or bankrupting this government.

"Let's challenge ourselves to do better."

  • who are your masters? who writes your speeches? this i would say to john boner if this was really his channel..

republicans only wanna fuck the working man.. they only wanna help their rich friends get more tax cuts even tho they dont need it!..

why idiot, are you giving this ass bandit air time on jewtube for?

  • @gettheminNOVEMBER so because you don't like him he's a dickhead? Very low class but not surprised by a high school dropout like you. So, how's your Wal-Mart greeter job going?

  • You listened to your people.

  • The People Need The Same, Health Care, As The People Thay Elect.......

  • What you are forgetting is that when the Judge ruled, "obamacare" unconstitutional, Pam Bondi asked him to clarify and the Judge said quite clearly that if anyone or agency implements any part or all of the Bill after his ruling they will be breaking Federal Law, can and will be prosecuted!

  • Ok repeal it, but what are the going to replace it with? I am not criticizing them, but it is not. The GOP's best weapon is to defund the healthcare bill. That in itself can lead to a Pandora's box. People will sue insurance companies because they will deny them healthcare coverage due to a pre-existing condition or if they get sick, or lose their job. Some may argue the 14th amendment with equal protection under the law.

  • Just because the majority of the people as you say are against it, doesn't mean that they are right. The Supreme Court doesn't always make decisions nor does the Congress vote based on what is considered popular. 2012 will be about the economy. In reality, the GOP knows that the party in power when the economy improves or is good almost always wins. In 2012, if Obama wins, I believe Democrats will gain back seats in the House. If they defund the healthcare bill, the will open up a Pandora's Box

  • I agree with what you said. I believe the Supreme Court would suggest that the healthcare insurance mandate is unconstitutional. I don't know. The Democrats should not have written that into the bill. Congress may have to re-write it. Here is the problem Republicans and conservatives have, the issue is not about repealing the law, but what are they going to replace it with. The answer is that they won't because healthcare is not a major platform issue with Republicans/conservatives.

  • So it will come down to the US Supreme Court which will rule 5 to 4 on it. Unless this conservative activist law-writing court really reaches so far, it will probably be upheld in most respects by them. And Obama will be appointing justices until 2016 anyway, even if the current law re-writers like Scalia and Thomas remain on the bench until then.

  • @dantheleo My gosh, this is so typical of the mix up of facts and fantasy. For one thing, the Florida Supreme Court did NOT rule that it was unconstitutional. A conservative Federal Judge in the southeastern district based in Florida said so in decision most legal scholars thinks far overreaches (like a good activist judge?) , and he himself suspended most it it being put in action since his ruling would create chaos as it stands now.

As to the waivers, oh brother---do a little more research
