This is the replacement of a HDD. I first had to remove my second HDD which is a 200gb 5400. I then put the new 160gb hdd in its place. Then I used the laptop to duplicate my 80GB 5400 C drive to the new 160gb 7200rpm then i started recording the moving of the 160 to the primary spot and then replacing the 200gb i needed to remove to do the dupe. Hope that makes sense to all, enjoy.

  • thanks for doing this ! my Vaio AR is at the Sony Service center cause it wont load, just the Vaio boot logo happens and theirs a noise around where the hard drive is, so maybe the hard drive is fucked ? so its gonna cost me $135 so they can tell me what it is but if its the hard drive, I might aswell do it myself ! ! ! thanks

  • I have dual 500gb now in this laptop, its the easiest laptop upgrade.

  • Because of the brightness and the low graphics i couldnt see anything you did, and this is realy important to me, because i wanna add a ssd to my laptop, and i have the possibility to add a second hard drive in my sony vaio, the only problem is.... there is no second SATA CABLE !!!!...

  • I have a VGN-AR605E and it's really similar, thanks for the tip, was having some trouble remembering how I did it last time.

  • WHAT A UGLY LAPTOP' ASUS FTW¡¡¡¡

  • Its way too bright to see what screws your messing with, try using an over head light instead of what looks like is the sunlight through a window. Still i got the basics, so thanks for the help. :)

  • thanks man

  • are you able to put one of these hard drives in a PS3?

  • thanks for posting

  • I'm having trouble finding the SATA controller for my model. If I enter the product code & serial number on the Sony Vaio support pages a different model comes up! Most annoying. I can't find my model (PCG-7112M) on there anywhere.

  • Im running XP on this laptop right now. It did require that i insert the sata drivers specifically for this laptop installation.

  • The XP disk works fine with my desktop PC, which has SATA drives in it. It just goes straight on without any trouble. The Tech guy at Sony told me I could only install Vista on this laptop. How could that be the case?
