Putting aside the need to take measures to preserve the rare speciment, if I were the astronaut, I would have abided by standard bio-security protocol & not retrieve the body at all (period)—let alone examining it in the lander. On top of everything else, they did so without protective gears. They might have proceeded with the instruction from Mission Control, but the involvement of more minds would make their proactice even more bizarre. The alien ship looks Zentraedi.
