  • light it light it XD

  • that looks very cool...when the aluminum is all gone, the solution looks like coffee

  • thanks for interesting video. What about tin (after eletrochemically deposited) immersed in hot NaOH (45C)? What happens? Is there any tin stanate formed? is this layer the called passivation layer? how can I remove it? thanks for replay

  • @BogMonkey53

That is the only gas product produced; however, since this reaction doesn't go to completion, there is still sodium hydroxide mixed with the water vapor. Not safe to breath.

  • what's the powder you put in the solution?

  • @MyLittleChemistryLab this reaction only gives off H2 though doesn't it? Also is there a reason you chose citric acid and NaHCO3? I tried this reaction for the first time just there and put way too much aluminium in so I neutralized with acetic acid.

  • Thank you so much, the reason I asked was because my sisters husband had used these chemicals in aluminium work with no gloves, mask etc.....he passed away over 2 years ago from Esophagus Cancer.

  • Were you using some kind of face mask with those chemicals?

I am not trying to insult you just trying to find out some facts on Sodium Hydroxide And Aluminium.
