@scaleop4 AMEN! The BEAUTIFULLEST! 14k views and hardly any comments! Probably b-cuz of the so -fa- la's in the first part, hardly nobody knows/likes shape note singing! We started meeting with some folks using the "Christian Hymnary" and since then I've preferred good acapella to most other sacred music.

hi,
Very good singing for the most part!! SING! Sing out! Praise God! I used to listen to this over and over when I worked at a computer and love this song because of it, but only this version.
THANK YOU very much for the post!
I tried to sing with shape noters but the emphasis was too much on the learning and not enjoying the singing once learned. There are many good shaped note songs that are missed by most Christains because of the difficulty in learning the music!

B. F. White published The Sacred Harp in 1844. There was another book of that name before that, by Lowell Mason I think, but it was not in shapes. B. F. White is considered the author of the Sacred Harp.
Benjamin Lloyd published "Primitive Hymns."
