Stamping tubes (or in this case 'stamping pipes') is a category of instrument in ethnomusicology, which up to now I only knew existed in parts of Africa. What this guy from the Solomon Islands on the western rim of the Pacific achieves, is amazing and sounds remarkably like magogodo xylophone playing from southern Malawi (see SWP 013 which can be bought via http://www.swp-records.com ). There is so much genius in folk musics, let's try to keep them alive. (thanks to hEuzz and Frans)

  • I'm tripping on his feet! How do you feel this rhythm...to me its like his foot is playing the 2 of a duple feel, but of course its also in triple as well, hence the genius of that living in both 2 and 3 rhythmic world...dig the rooster crowing at 2:34! I miss that about living in the USA, at least in my city...no roosters over here crowing me awake in the morning!

  • amazing... music is every where
