On a race to the desktop, vaio is a bit faster. Sony Vaio P for the win! :)

The XP puter had a bunch of icons on the desktop. That takes time to load.
Second, how much memory was in each machine? Vista requires a lot more than XP.
All you did was compare apples to oranges.
