Thanks for the comments, you guys are absolutely fabulous. I always fall behind on Glee, and then catch up, it's a vicious cycle, I love Glee so much.

The little cafe is overcrowded with skiers and snowboarders, trying to warm up. Joe gets Nick to grab a table while he goes and gets the drinks. Nick gets them the tables as far back as he can, closest to the fire. It was darker than the rest of the cafe. You could say it was more romantic, but Nick would probably hit you.
Joe walks carefully over to the table, clutching two steaming hot chocolates. He places them down carefully, takes a seat, and then pulls out a handful of sugar out of his pocket. After sliding over a cup towards Nick, he rips open some packets with his teeth (hot damn) before dumping them into his hot chocolate. Nick just stares.
When Joe finally looks up and notices Nick's look of bewilderment, he grins, blushing slightly.
"I like my hot chocolate really sweet." Nick rolls his eyes.
"Oh really? I thought you were dumping in all that sugar to make it bitter. Wow, who knew that sugar makes things sweeter." Joe narrows his eyes slightly. Nick smirks before taking a small sip. "Thanks for the hot chocolate."
"You're like one of those grouchy cats named Mrs. Whiskerson or something."
"What?" Joe flashes a grin, before continuing.
"Well, you're all grouchy one second, and then nice the next. Like a cat." Nick rolls his eyes again.
"Most people don't like being compared to a grumpy cat, just so you know." Joe laughs.
"It's not a bad thing. I like cats." Joe winks, and Nick stares down at his hot chocolate, demanding his blush to disperse. Nick does not blush.
"Do you take all of your private lessons out for hot chocolate?" Joe grins again.
"Nah, only the ones the suck."
"I don't suck!"
"Whatever makes you sleep at night." Joe starts slurping on his hot chocolate, pulling his hat off with one hand, mussing his hair back in place. He looks different without the hat, younger and boyish, with serious hat head.
"I appreciate it." Joe smiles, and blushes lightly.
"You're cute." Joe blushes darker.
"Like a cat?" Joe laughs loud and surprised.
"Yeah, like a cat."
There's an awkward silence as they both take a sip of their drinks. Nick can't help but think this is a date. And if it is in fact a date, awesome.
"Why do you do this? Teach snowboarding I mean. You can't be older than 22, didn't you want to go to University, or make something of yourself." Nick groans inwardly by how harsh that sounded, feels bad when Joe winces at his words. "Sorry, that didn't come out as I planned." Joe stares at Nick quizzically, unblinking. Nick feels a little uncomfortable.
"I had a plan," Joe starts, "I was going to go to University of British Columbia, and take Kinesiology, get my BA and then get into physical therapy." Joe swallows, frowning at his drink. "And then Senior year I told my parents I liked boys. I don't know what I expected, I mean, my dad's a pastor. Anyway, they didn't take it so well, and kicked me out. I finished the year sleeping on my best friend's couch. When I graduated I came out here, and tried to earn some money. During the winter I teach, and during the summer I work in the resort. As soon as I have enough money, I'm returning to the original plan, but it's taking longer than I thought it would."
Nick feels pangs of guilt. Thinks of his understanding parents who hugged him when he came out.
"I'm sorry." Joe shrugs.
"Not your fault."
"I know. But I also know it can't be easy for you, and I'm sorry that your parents reacted that way."
"Thanks. I love snowboarding though, you know? I'm good at it, and I love kids, it's a good job, and I'm not unhappy." Joe glances up at Nick from under his bangs, and all Nick can think of is how Joe looks like an adorable puppy that's been kicked.
Nick adores puppies.
It's hard to tell who is more surprised when Nick stands up and bends down to hug Joe. They were both really stunned.
Joe's body is warm and toned with lean muscle. He smells good with the faintest hint of sweat. It's a good hug and Nick ignores Joe when he says, "Like a cat."

I was watching the Grinch, Taylor Momsen was SO CUTE! And now she's kind of scary looking. She's a pretty girl, but she looks so morbid and threatening.
Happy Chrismukkwanzaa!
