Wouldn't it be better if you get closer and use to hands on the wrist to apply more pressure, and just break it? So the attacker wont be able to 'attack'?

Having used a wrist lock hundreds of times in real life situations I can honestly say that this is a pathetic demonstration particularly of the last hold. He is standing too far out, particularly against a taller opponent. You need to have body in against their's otherwise when pressure is applied to the wrist they will automatically try to straighten their arm and that elbow that is "touching" his chest will pop up striking him in the chin or nose.
