For my 30th knife review, here's an interesting trip back in time: a look at a typical obsidian knife, as used in prehistoric times (and also by native Americans), and the scramasax: a saxon EDC knife that was used from late Roman times until roughly the 10th century.

  • hoffe kanst deutsch :D, wie schärfe ich den Steinmesser? muss ich mit einen anderen Stein auf die Kante schlagen um es scharf zu machen``????

  • @xmilosxthexbeatboxx In theory, yes, there is a technique called "knapping" where the knifemaker hits the blade with another stone until he has a sharp edge. To resharpen he could scrape it over a flat rock. In my case, the knife is only for display, I don't use it.

  • i know that obsiden knives are like the sharpest knife there is, but would it break easily on impact?

  • @98765432123456789000 Indeed, it's a kind of glass after all.

  • May i ask where you got your scramasax from i would love to have similiar to it

  • @79ward From a shop that doesn't have it in stock anymore. You will have to hunt the internet for it nowadays...

I may be willing to sell mine (unused, only for display), as I have too many knives and my computer faces an expenisve repair...

  • Thanks, im sure that obsidian would make a much better skinning knife though, due to its super sharp edge.
